About the hotel

Gougane Barra Hotel is a beautiful hotel in beautiful surroundings, modern, comfortable and situated on its own grounds, overlooking Gougane Barra Lake.

With free fishing and some of the most stunning walks through unspoilt country you could imagine, the hotel is also ideal as a base for exploring the beauty spots of Kerry and West Cork. All rooms enjoy fine views of the lake, glen and hills beyond, and the restaurant enjoys a reputation for fine cuisine and friendly service.

This family run hotel is nestled in one of the most scenic and romantic glens in Ireland, at the source of the River Lee. A favourite place for visitors, this small intimate hotel is renowned for its fine food, warm welcome and splendid views. This relaxing setting offers activities such as boating, fishing, hiking and cycling. Gougane Barra is famous for St. Finbarr Hermitage, Ireland's 1st National Forest Park, and for its peace and tranquillity. This is an ideal touring centre for the spectacular West Cork and Kerry peninsulas. Neil and Katy Lucey look forward to welcoming you here.

Restaurants and Bars

The restaurant overlooks the lake and St Finbarr’s Oratory on the island, and it is here that breakfast and evening dinner is served.

During the day, food is served in the Tailor and Ansty Bar and sitting rooms every day except Sunday, when traditional Sunday lunch is served in the restaurant. The bar menu has lots to tempt you with. This includes fruit scones with jam and cream, homemade soup or chowder, Dingle Bay smoked salmon and prawns with honey dressing, or a warm chicken salad with roast pine nuts. Home-baking is a large part of this family-run establishment and doesn't disappoint. All breads and desserts are freshly baked in the kitchen.

In the evening, dinner is served from 17:30. There are a variety of menus to suit different requirements, such as early bird, à la carte, and table d'hote. The menu is well balanced and seasonally planned, based on locally sourced fresh ingredients, and prepared with great attention to detail. Katy has brought a lot of recipes from her father’s kitchen in Lahinch, where her parents, Eamonn and Rita Vaughan, ran Mr. Eamonn’s famous restaurant for many years.

All of this great food is complimented by a well-chosen wine list with lots of different old and new world choices. Advice is also available.
